Chapter 20
“Hello?”
“I’m just calling to let you know I need you to pick up the kids after school today.” Ivy spoke as if it was two in the afternoon, not before a quarter to three in the morning.
“They have invites to birthday parties on Saturday and Sunday.” She kept on talking.
My heart rate eased up because I now knew Ebony was safe.
“Cool, I will make sure they aren’t late.” Dealing with Rafinay and Ivy in the same hour wasn’t a good look.
I was certain one if not both was going to piss me off again.
“You do know you could have waited until a suitable hour to call me regarding our kids?”
Rafinay let out a loud groan. I rolled my eyes at her and left the bedroom.
“Why does it matter what time I call you when it comes to our kids? If you were entertaining that nappy-headed tramp, you should not have answered the phone. So the way I see it, you couldn’t have been that busy!”
“Look, make sure they have the addresses and times of the parties when I get them ‘cause I’m not coming to your house for shit!”
“But you will have to take them to shop for gifts.” Ivy threw at me.
“When have I ever not known what to do for a kid’s party?”
I couldn’t believe she was acting as if I was a deadbeat. Just because I was out of the house for a few minutes didn’t mean I’d forgotten how to take care of my most precious gifts.
“Ok well have a good weekend.” She sang out to me.
I hung up the phone on her. Either Ivy was in need of weaker medication or needed her medication dosage upped a notch. Since she made the change, I’d been offering her my services as a physician. I also knew exactly what her problem truly was. I could bandage her name and heart with a prescription but Ivy truly needed a change in her soul. In theory, her heart is in California while her children were in New Jersey. She wasn’t interested in building a link between the two except for the fact of how it made her look. Ivy tolerated her children. No children, no check from me coming every month. She loved the prestige. She loved the money. She loved the comfort. Only problem was the nineteen year olds she rolled around naked with, didn’t have prestige, money, or the comfort of anything besides a nut. Now I had two with the same issue. Rafinay had picked up exactly where Ivy left off.
“Come on let’s get you back to bed so that you can be ready for the day.”
Rafinay was pushing me back into the bedroom. She couldn’t push my solid frame far. I went to my bedroom on my own free will. I needed to help her get dressed. Instead she hopped onto the bed, on her back in a flash, staring me down.
“Tre, I’m not leaving tonight like some jump-off or woman of the night!
